Setting Goals & Goal Realization
Improve
Your Self-Confidence
and Realize Your Goals
The
individual whose self-confidence is not strong will have
a difficult time setting goals. Their mind
abounds with self-doubt as to whether they can accomplish anything
in their life. When your confidence in your self, increases
so, will your desire to accomplish new things as well as goals
you did not think you would be able to do. Your step becomes
lighter your smile brighter because you know that you can do
anything you set your mind too. This is what self-confidence
does for a person.
You have probably seen or met people in your life that exude
self-confidence from their very pores. You may have even wondered
how in the world they can be that confident. You may think
to yourself “Why do I not have that same level of confidence?” Have you ever walked up to someone to ask them how they have
that much confidence in their abilities? Many times the response
is they just do or that they always have. To the one suffering
from a lack of self-confidence that does not help much. Although
if you take a step back and realize what they said, it is a
very beneficial statement. “They always have” They just do.”
What that tells you is that the only person who is keeping
your self-confidence from flying higher than the clouds is
you.
That is right you, we
so often sabotage our own life. So if
we are the primary reason why our self-confidence is sitting
in the toilet how do we change the perception of our abilities
and begin realizing our goals?
You need to sit either by yourself or with a trusted friend
and look at some of the events in your life that triggered
your low self-confidence. Was there a person, place, or event
that stuck with you, even if it was a comment in passing?
Sit
down and write out the reasons why you believe you cannot
accomplish your goals. After you have done this, take a good
look at what you wrote down. Is that really what you believe
about yourself or simply what you keep saying repeatedly in
your mind?
Take another piece of paper and write what your strengths
are. Write down what you are confident at and if you feel,
there is nothing pick up at the first sheet of paper and write
the exact opposite down.
The first step to boosting your self-confidence is to change
the perception of yourself. Your confidence will begin to soar
the moment you begin to take a long, honest look at what it
is you say to yourself on a daily basis. When you find yourself
saying you cannot do this or that stop in the middle and silently
(or aloud) say that you can accomplish the task you doubt.
The next step is to look at those goals you have put on hold
for all of these years. Pick one, it does not have to be skydiving,
– then again, maybe it is. Usually start with a small goal.
If you pick something that is so large that is seems impossible,
that is sabotaging your self-confidence. Maybe you want to
meet new people. Then you can set a goal that says three times
a month you will go to a social event or even to a coffee house
where you are among people you have never met. With each baby
step, you take towards your goals you will have the added benefit
of your self-esteem climbing as well.
Finding
the inner strength to begin setting goals and then
taking the necessary avenues to reaching them is not an easy
task, especially if you are not use to goal setting. Believing
in you is not easy either and can at times be very frightening.
If you have spent the majority of your life believing you were
not capable to doing certain things, it is indeed a scary place
to be. Surround yourself with people who believe the best in
you and are honest when they see you moving into an area of
your life that maybe you should think twice about entering.
Listen to their feedback about who you are. Let their words
sink deep into your soul and learn to believe them. Build a
support network when you set your goals. Make yourself accountable
to your friends. Tell them what you want to do and the steps
you want to take to get there and ask for their help and support.
Remember, you are never alone in this life and as you want
to build up your self-esteem there are many wonderful people
around you who will support you and celebrate when you reach
your goal and then celebrate when you reach the next goal.
