Setting Goals & Goal Realization
How
Important is Goal Setting?
Everyone sets goals and everyone pursues their goals. Goals
are important tools in helping us to reach our dreams and
aspirations in life. Dreams are actually goals that never
happen. Setting goals helps us to make our dreams the reality.
The importance of setting goals is to help us realize what
we need to do to achieve making our dreams a reality.
Written goals help us to represent that we are making
a commitment to reach our dreams. Making a commitment to ourselves to achieve
the written goals gives us a sense of liability. Making ourselves
liable for the goals we set for our lives is very important.
If we want to save enough money for retirement, we will need
to set goals to achieve this. For example, you could sit down
at work with the human resource manager and discuss a financial
plan for your future. As you discuss this, you can write down
a timeline outlining all of the things you will need to accomplish
for a prosperous retirement. You can also make this outline
with a financial adviser or even with your life insurance agent.
Place your financial goal outline somewhere you will see it
frequently. Every time you look at the goal outline, you will
be reminded of what you need to do you to meet your goals.
All worthwhile goals have their price. This may mean you’ll
have to overcome a certain fear or making a financial investment.
Some goals may require a lot of time and energy to be devoted
to them in order to accomplish them. If your goal is worthwhile,
you will do anything you need to achieve it. Make your goal
growth facilitating and truly desirable. All of your goals
should provide you with a feeling of challenge, this will help
you feel better about yourself and you will feel even better
after reaching your goal. Your goal should be beneficial to
you or someone else and should never be destructive are harmful
in any way.
There
are many questions you should ask when setting a goal. The first question should be, is the goal attainable? If you
answer no to this question then the goal is not feasible. The
next question you should ask, is how will the goal benefit
you or someone else? If you cannot answer this question then
maybe you need to rethink the goal. Something to note is that
a goal does not necessarily have to produce something that
is in a physical form. A goal can simply make you feel better,
give meaning or purpose, or simply provide direction. If you
believe that your goal accomplishes all of these objectives
and helps you focus on the dream you are trying to make reality,
then the goal is attainable. When you realize that your goal
is attainable, you’ll be more likely to achieve the goal and
you will experience a great feeling of satisfaction.
Rewards are a great way to help you achieve your goals. When
you write down your goal rewards it gives you a visual of something
you will receive when you achieve the goal. Rewards can be
small for the little goals or steps that you will be completing
to reach the larger goal at hand. A great example of a reward
that you can give yourself when you complete a small goal is
starting a money jar. After you complete a small goal, or step
towards a large goal, place a preset amount of money into a
jar. Once you complete all of the small goals you can take
the money and buy yourself something. You may also want to
select a large reward, such as a trip or other large item you
have been wanting, for those larger goals and dreams that you
want to achieve.
We all have goals, whether we consciously set them or not.
Whether it is to pay the bills at the end of the week, to buy
a new house, increase profits in your business, to lose those
extra few pounds or to create the life of your dreams... everyone
has goals. The difference between the people who do eventually
get to live the life of their dreams and those who will only
ever yearn for their dream is goal setting.
