Setting Goals & Goal Realization
Why
is Goal Realization so Important?
Goal realization is more important than many people realize.
Too many people walk aimlessly throughout life, angry with
them for never finding true happiness or dissatisfied with
their own lives. Goal realization helps avoid this unfortunate
circumstance and gets you on track to the life you always
wanted.
The Snowball Effect
Once you realize what your goals are, it is much easier to
have all of the other pieces of your life fall into place.
After you have determined your goal, you can work on creating
a plan for achieving this goal. Within your plan, you will
have a series of smaller goals that need to be reached in order
to achieve your larger goal. When you create a plan, it makes
the possibility of achieving your goal seem much more attainable
and clear. But, of course, you need to have first determined
your goal before you can make a plan.
This can perhaps be better illustrated with a real life scenario.
Pretend you want to take your family on a vacation. Do you
just load your family in the car and hit the open road? Of
course not, you leave with a destination in mind. Otherwise,
you may travel for days without ever finding a good place to
stop. By this time, the entire family will be tired, cranky,
and just wanting to go home. In the meantime, you wasted time
and money (in the form of gas), only to get nowhere. To go
on a family vacation, you need to have a destination in mind.
After you have decided where you want to go, you can make your
plans for getting there. To have the best vacation, you will
research the destination beforehand and have a good idea of
what it has to offer. That way, you can just go right to the
activities your family will enjoy the most.
The same is true with goal realization. You cannot create
a plan until you know where you are going. After you decide
where you are heading, you can lay out the step-by-step road
map of your life to get where you want to go. The more you
learn about what it takes to achieve this goal, the better
prepared you will be and the better capable you will be of
achieving it.
Giving Yourself Direction
For many people, goal realization is a great relief because
it provides a sense of direction. Those walking around aimlessly
feel as if they are spinning their wheels and getting nowhere.
Knowing where you are going and how you are getting there lifts
an incredible weight from your shoulders and provides you with
a sense of purpose. This sense of relief is invigorating and
will help give you the strength you need to push forward toward
your goal.
Improving Yourself
Those who are dissatisfied with their lives look back on their
lives to this point and feel as if they have accomplished very
little. At the same time, consider those that feel defeated
to the point that they don’t think they can achieve more than
what they already have. This leads to a vicious cycle that
ends in a sad and empty life. Don’t let this happen to you.
Ask yourself where you want to be 5 years from now, 10 years
from now, 15 years from now and more. Now you have a choice:
you can stay in the life you are living, or you can work toward
achieving that goal. Five years from now will you still be
angry with yourself for doing nothing with your life, or will
you be able to proudly say that you worked toward a goal and
achieved it? If you are hoping for the latter, the first thing
you need to do is determine your goal so you know what you
are working for.
Positive Thinking
There is no denying the power of positive thinking. If you
believe in yourself and your own abilities, you are more likely
to work toward bigger and better dreams. Similarly, others
are more likely to help you achieve your dreams if they see
how much you believe in them. If you don’t believe in yourself,
no one will. Goal realization gives you something to work toward
and almost forces you to think positively, particularly if
you refuse to take your eye of the goal. Those who think positively
are less stressed and generally happier individuals who are
filled with a sense of purpose.
