Throat Home Remedies
A sore throat may have many causes and it
is important to find the right sore throat remedy for the particular
condition that you have.
Common Causes Of A Sore Throat
- Laryngitis:
inflammation of the larynx. This usually results in losing
your voice.
- Tonsillitis:
inflammation of the tonsils. Common in children.
- Mononucleosis
or glandular fever: accompanied by swelling of the glands
in the throat.
- Strep
throat: a streptococcal bacterial infection of the throat
or tonsils, often accompanied by fever.
- Symptom
of a viral infection: a sore throat is often the first
symptom of a cold or flu.
- Candida
albicans or oral thrush.
Some of these conditions can become serious if not successfully
treated. If your sore throat remedy does not work and the irritation
or inflammation persists for more than 24 hours, or if you
have swelling or a fever, it is important to see a doctor.
You may need antibiotics or other medication.
Throat pain or discomfort can also be caused by some medications
or medical treatments, including chemotherapy. Your doctor
will advise on the best way to treat this side effect without
compromising your other treatments.
In rare cases a sore throat could be an early indicator of
throat cancer or HIV infection. This is another reason for
visiting the doctor's office if the soreness persists.
Soothing A Sore Throat The classic and traditional home remedy for a sore throat
is a drink of honey and lemon. Make it extra effective by adding
ginger and/or turmeric which have anti inflammatory properties.
You can also substitute apple cider vinegar instead of the
lemon. Mix 1 tablespoon of ACV and 1 tablespoon of honey in
8 oz warm water, and sip slowly.
Where the throat is irritated or infected, gargling with warm
salt water or an antiseptic solution can be helpful. Aspirin
or ibuprofen can reduce pain but if you prefer natural remedies
you will often find salt water just as effective as an analgesic
or painkiller and it can also kill bacteria which plain analgesics
will not do. Try not to swallow too much of the salt water
to avoid raising your sodium levels too high.
Ice cold foods can help to dull the pain too. That is why
children are often given ice cream after having their tonsils
removed. Be careful not to eat too much sugar! Iced water will
have the same effect.
Gargling with one eighth teaspoon of cayenne pepper in water
or orange juice may be effective. It is important not to swallow
the cayenne and hold your breath while you gargle to avoid
inhaling it. Repeat every 15 minutes until the sore throat
goes. This sore throat remedy is recommended by many people
but can be unpleasant. You may prefer to keep the sore throat! Click here to discover my current SolveYourProblem recommendation and choice pick for the fastest, easiest and best natural health remedies & solutions you'll find anywhere. Get it and reward yourself with a healthier life.
