What
Is The Power of Positive Thinking?
If
we're not thinking positively, we're thinking negatively.
There is no "neutral thinking." You're
always actively creating either the life of your dreams or
your nightmares. Even those who call themselves "realists" are
only perpetuating things as they are. If you're happy with
things as they are, then continue thinking how you have been.
But if you want change in your life, then you can use the power
of positive thinking to get it.
To start accessing the power of positive thinking, start coming
up with positive statements to replace the negative ones you've
been habitually telling yourself until now.
And don't just come up with any old positive statements, come
up with ones that are as specific as possible. The more specific
you are about the good things you think about, the more you
will conjure up conditions and circumstances befitting your
design.
Remember
that positive thinking is proactive thinking, meaning
that you are thinking about what you do what and not what you
don't. To think positively, your thoughts must not be framed
in reference to those things you want changed. They must be
framed in relation to what you want things changed to.
Two methods of using positive thinking to effect actual, practical,
measurable results in the world are affirmations and visualization.
Affirmations are positively phrased statements you tell yourself
repeatedly in order to bring yourself ever-more into alignment
with the actualization of those statements. Visualizations are mental pictures that serve the same ends.
For best results, create affirmations and visualizations that
trigger your emotions, for it is not merely your thoughts that
create your reality but those thoughts fueled by the most passionate
emotions in you, be they positive or negative.
Affirmations, visualizations, and all other
forms and methods of positive thinking are based in imagining
the way we want
things to be rather than observing how they currently appear
to be. Rather than bemoaning and complaining about your life
as it "is", positive thinking empowers you to create
it all anew, and this time to create it how you want it to
be.
And if there are things in your life that you
already love, that you're already happy with, you can use
the power of positive
thinking to nourish and nurture those things to continue to
grow and blossom in your life. One of the highest forms of
positive thinking, actually, is gratitude. By expressing gratitude
for the things you appreciate about yourself and your life,
you are saying to the Universe, "More of this, please." In
parenting, it's called positive reinforcement. In spiritual
practice, it's called gratitude.
In fact, if you take no other steps to harness the power of
positive thinking in your life than taking your attention wholly
off those things you're unhappy about and putting them instead
on those things you are happy about, you will make leaps and
bounds in improving your quality of life and appreciation for
life in every area of your life.
