Surgery - When Natural Treatments Don't Work
Natural hemorrhoid treatments and hemorrhoid
home remedies are not sufficient enough for some hemorrhoid
sufferers. If you suffer from severe hemorrhoids then you will
most likely require some form of medical intervention. Here
we explore some of the options available for hemorrhoid treatment.
Clot Removal Treatment
Clot removal surgery is a minor surgery that is most often
performed in a physician’s office on an out-patient basis.
It is done with local anesthesia and is performed on thrombosed
hemorrhoids whereby a blood clot has developed in an external
hemorrhoid(s). For many people the development of a clot in
this area can cause a tremendous amount of pain.
In
this instance, the physician would apply the local anesthesia
and would then cut the skin carefully and lift the blood clot
out. He would then apply a dressing to the site to allow it
to heal properly. The patient might feel a slight level of
discomfort or tenderness following the procedure and also as
the wound recovers. The good news in this on the other hand
is that the most serious of pain – the blood clot – will be
gone. This will spell relief for the patient!
Be aware that in many cases blood clots get better in time
all by themselves without the need for any type of medical
assistance. However many individuals decide to proceed with
the clot removal procedure because the pain is excruciating
and not easy to live with.
Discuss the situation with your doctor. If it is not causing
you too much pain he may recommend that you leave it alone
and may suggest a type of hemorrhoid cream or other hemorrhoid
treatment that can offer relief.
Cryosurgery
Cryosurgery was once a popular treatment method for hemorrhoids
but has since fallen behind other methods because of the discomfort
that it brings as well as the potential for complications that
often accompanies it. This hemorrhoid treatment can be used
on either internal or external hemorrhoids. They are frozen
and then destroyed with the use of a cryophobe. The freezing
agent used is either liquid nitrogen or nitrous oxide. Liquid
nitrogen is used most often when this method is employed. The
substance travels through a series of tubes and when it reaches
the tip of the cryophobe it cools it until it reaches the temperature
of freezing.
Once this occurs then the hemorrhoids are either frozen directly
as they are or else ligation takes place first. In most cases
local anesthesia is used to minimize the pain and to make the
patient more comfortable.
This surgical procedure for hemorrhoid relief is considered
to be one of the most painful which is why it is seldom used
anymore. As well the wound is left open and can give way to
an infection. Furthermore for the first few weeks after the
hemorrhoid treatment has been administered some patients can
experience a foul odor and/or an abnormal rectal discharge
which can be very upsetting. In many cases the patient will
need to use absorbent pads until the problem clears up. # # # # #
