Flood Survival Kits
In
the event of any major disaster or catastrophe, whether it
be man made or natural, the biggest question on
our minds, in that moment, is how to survive it. Now a lot
of our survival can depend on time or circumstance. Or how
calm we remain and the employment of just good old common sense.
(Although that seems to be getting rarer.) But let's face
it. Survival
may just not be enough. We have grown accustomed to a certain
level of comfort in this part of the world. And it can really
irk to be torn from the fine safety of our homes.
To that end a great many companies have seen a need to create
survival kits and gadgets that while unable to replace the
amenities of our home go a long way toward mitigating our discomfort
and ensuring our safety. Although the list is endless, here
are a few items that could come in handy.
* Aluminum
space blankets – lightweight, able to fit into
small pockets, effective against the cold.
* Radios that don't require batteries but are rechargeable
by solar panels or winding a small crank.
* Flashlights that can be recharged by shaking or again –
winding a small winch.
* Deluxe
hygiene kits that come with everything you could
ever need to feel fresh.
* Folding
Port-a-Potty – Perfect for emergencies – has removable
plastic bags held in place by a plastic ring that acts as a
seat. Just remember to bring some toilet paper!
* Self-heating meals that can heat up in a pouch without any
matches, flame or stove. Already in use by the coast guard,
police, and search and rescue operators. When they need a hot
meal on the go!
* Or if you choose, you can get high
calorie food tabs that
give all the vitamins, minerals, protein and fat, etc. to get
you through the day economically. And that's not to mention
the innumerable varieties of protein and power bars.
* The inimitable Swiss Army Knife that now has enough appendages
and utilities that it just about constitutes one stop shopping.
* Turbo
Jet Lighters that will light up in any wind.
* Portable
Butane stoves. Reliable and powerful yet a light
five pounds. Usable indoors or out.
* Or a sun
oven – portable at 21 lbs.- that cooks food with
the power of the sun. Temperatures can reach up to 360 to 400
degrees Fahrenheit.
* Or you could opt for a 10oz
folding stove that cooks over
a small round fuel cannister.
* Pet
Survival Kits that come with food rations and first
aid kit.
* A 4
in 1 emergency tool that is designed simply yet efficiently
to enable you to turn off gas, water, pry open doors or dig
through debris.
* Kits that test the quality of water or detect the presence
of dangerous gases.
* And let's not forget what we put on our backs. The type
of clothes we have can be important especially if we are exposed
to the elements for too long a time. Nowadays there are all
manner of lightweight, insulated outerwear like jackets and
pants. Waterproof clothes and boots should be a must for the
family if a flood event is a possibility. And companies such
as Tilley's Endurables provide clothing that is extremely functional.
They provide items such as socks, underwear, t-shirts and pants
that are quick drying and versatile in so many ways.
So if you have the money to spare, there is a whole world
to explore of wonderful survival gadgetry. And if you don't,
well, you may still pick up some ways to put stuff together
on your own. It will certainly get you thinking on how you
can best prepare for the worst.
