How Do I Properly Detox & Remove Toxins From My Body?
How Do I Detox In A Bathtub?
Detoxing is good for your health. What better, or easier, way to detox than taking a bath. All you need is a few supplies and a good, long soak.
What is Detoxing in the Bathtub?
In addition to cleansing your body from the inside out, you can detox by simply taking a bath. Certain natural elements help actually pull the toxins from your muscles and tissues. For example, Epsom salts are often prescribed for athletes.
After a good workout, take a bath in Epsom salts and the lactic acid is pulled from the muscles. The result is a faster and more comfortable recovery. If you have a sprain your doctor might also prescribe an Epsom salt soak. You can use the power of salts, both Epsom and sea, to pull toxins from your body.
If you take a particularly warm bath you sweat too. Sweat is one of your body's cooling mechanisms. It also detoxifies your body. Add a good loofa to the bath to scrub your dead skin off and stimulate blood flow and you have the making for a very effective detox bath.
You might also add essential oils to your bath like ginger, eucalyptus or lavender to help with the detox, and distress, properties. Or add grapefruit oil to purify or rosemary oil to improve circulation. A detox bath will most certainly help you relax.
Getting Started
There are several steps to a great detox bath. The first step is to choose the right time. Detox baths take around an hour. Make sure you have an hour of undisturbed time. Choose a time when you're already feeling relaxed. If you are stressed, sitting for an hour in the bathtub is going to be more stressful. And if you have to get out of the bath and go somewhere then that can detract from the experience.
The next step is to gather your supplies. You can buy a bag of Epsom salts at your grocery store for less than five dollars. If you prefer, you can find dead sea salts at natural stores and markets. Don't buy sea salts with added scents and other elements. These often contain chemicals. Not good for a detox bath!
You will also want a good loofa or scrubbing brush. You can also create a salt scrub with Epsom salts and a bit of water. If you want to add essential oils to your bath, choose those too. Consider adding a few drops of the oil to the salts before pouring them into the bath. This will help keep the oil from rising to the surface and sticking to your skin.
Finally, set the mood. Consider turning the lights down so you're not looking up at bright lights. If you're going to read or listen to music while you're in the tub then gather those materials too. Run the bath, as hot as you can stand it for 40-60 minutes. Pour two cups of Epsom salts into your bath and slide into the water. Once you're done with the bath, shower off to remove the skin, toxins and salt from your body. Enjoy!
