Online dating tips and relationship advice from Dr. Neder...
How Much
Should You Admit in Personal Ads?
Great Book! Great
Site!
I have a question
about creating an online personal ad. I stutter sometimes and
I'm not sure if or how I should work that into my ad without
turning people off. My friends and co-workers don't have a problem
with it.
Thank you
-----------------------
Hello!
I think you're
making too much of this. I don't have real statistics on this,
but I know that stuttering is really much more common than most
people think. In fact, many people stutter more out of habit
than anything organic.
So, should you
include the fact that you stutter in a personal ad? No, absolutely
not. What difference does it make? You should only include the
good things about you in an ad - specifically, what DO you bring
to a potential partner? Those are the most important things.
Personal ads are
where you want to present your best light. You can delve into
all the deep dark secrets later once you’ve got a relationship
going. Think of personal ads just like any other ad. Have you
ever seen a Coca Cola ad that stated, “Sure, we rot your teeth,
but you’ll be SO COOL drinking it…”?
Here's another
point: you're probably already aware that you stutter more when
you're nervous. Spend time working on your nervousness and watch
your stuttering reduce dramatically! You can use guided visualization
and practice to accomplish this, or visit a hypnotherapist for
a few sessions. You'll find great improvements can come quickly.
Best regards...
