Want To End My Addiction NOW!
How
To Stay
On The Path & Recover From An Addiction
When you have admitted your addiction and
made the mental decision to recover to a normal life, you must
change a few things in order to be a success. The phrase “Old
Habits Die Hard” comes to mind and has never been truer.
A complete
change of scenery is required in order to be able
to stay on the path. Keep in mind that is it not impossible
to go back to the same old hangouts and activities and still
stay clean, but why put the additional pressure on yourself.
The idea is to make this recovery as painless and permanent
as possible. So if alcohol was your vice, then stopping at
the bar everyday after work is probably not a good idea.
Common
sense always prevails in this situation. Hanging
out with the same crowd can be disastrous in your attempted
recovery.
If you recall, the center of activity in those previous environments
is exactly what you are trying to recover from. Careful consideration
should be used before you think of returning to that scenario.
Find
a new way to channel your energy. During recovery you
will find new ways to replace the illicit activities that once
controlled you. That in its self is a very motivating factor
in anyone’s mind. You can look in the mirror and be proud that
you are no longer under the control of your previous vice.
It does get a bit easier as time goes by. By remembering what
your addiction has done to you it will motivate you to embrace
your new found control.
