Want To End My Addiction NOW!
Addiction,
Depression & How To Face Reality
The
first step in recovering from an addiction is to admit to
yourself that the addiction exists. It is
quite common for you to take the “I can quit any time”
attitude and not truly recognize what is happening to you.
Once
you finally admit to yourself that you are addicted,
depression hits you like a hammer. You are admitting that
you have lost control of your life. You have succumbed to
the
need
for whatever substance in order to face reality. This response
is a constant to virtually all substance abuse victims. Regardless
of the vice, the results are the same mentally.
The
immediate response is shame. Then comes the looking back
and regrets for things done while under the influence of
your
chosen vice. You continue to question yourself for past
discrepancies. All the while wondering and hoping if the bridges
burned can be rebuilt. You feel lost and very alone at
this point. “Where do I go from here”, is a thought that consumes
the mind.
There
are many avenues in which you can get help. There are group
programs and support groups that you can participate
in to help you find your way back. The benefit of this activity
is that you can share with those who have gone through the
same type of recovery as you. Get some different ideas and
share your experiences. Those of like mind will share with
you and together you WILL find a way.
